A Girl With A Saw Can Make The World More Beautiful!
My name is Anne, I am from East Coast Canada. Having been born and raised in the Maritimes, I have an incredible appreciation for all things old, worn that carry with them a story about how they came to be that way.
Some of my fondest memories as a child are of a summer farm home we owned. It had wide planked board floors that were painted in places and worn from walking in others. It had chippy painted doors and cool iron door knobs that seemed to lead to magical places. The wood stove was always warm beside the green painted cabinets that had chipped away to show the yellow paint from before.
What I discovered over the years was, I was not alone! There were others with my love of a dresser with just the exact right chippy edges, and paint worn handles that made you lie in bed looking at it imagining all the other people who enjoyed it over the years.
So where did the signs come from though? Well, I was presented with a health change that required me to leave my full time job I LOVED for a period of time. During that time I was given some advice by a person I very much admire and look up to. He said "As much as you might like to, you can't control the situation you are in. However, you have 100% control over turning this time into something that you'll always look back at and say, "if that tough situation didn't happen, I wouldn't have this great thing in my life now". I was always thinking about that in the back of my mind from that day onward.
At one point being off work, I wanted to "nest" and really dress up my home, but being off work, I could not afford to shop up a storm so I thought, I know wood working, I am super artistic, maybe I could try my hand and sign making. One sign grew into twenty and I started selling them to friends and family, and I never looked back :) I realized it was the "thing" I had been looking for amidst the challenges I was facing. He was right, I will never regret that time, because it created all of this.
Life is short and we should live a life of comfort and joy in our homes! We should open the door and see a sign with our family name on it. We should have a well loved and worn coat rack awaiting our coats after a long day. We should look forward to unpacking our Christmas decor every year just to remember all the treasures we packed away the year before.
I hope you will let me create the kind of memories your children and their children will share for years to come. They can only come from moments and things that last a lifetime. Let your life be timeless in a way that only gorgeous rustic wood can allow.
